Fast forward to 2050. Anglesey has successfully transitioned from fossil fuels to renewable energy. The air is cleaner, and we’ve made some strides in reversing climate change and restoring our ecosystems.

Our island hums with activity – green manufacturing plants producing wind turbines and solar panels, research labs pioneering new energy storage technologies, teams installing and maintaining renewable energy systems. Our young people are at the heart of this activity, driving innovation while preserving our culture and language.

Affordable, green public transport and support for active travel have made moving around easier and more sustainable. Efficient heating systems and insulation in our homes and businesses ensure comfort without harming the planet.

Frequently asked questions

What is ’Energy island’?

The Anglesey Energy Island Programme is an initiative established by the Isle of Anglesey County Council. It’s a collective effort involving public, private, and third sectors, all working together to put Anglesey at the forefront of low carbon energy research, development, production, and servicing.

The Energy Island Programme aims to bring potentially huge economic rewards to Anglesey. It seeks to attract and de-risk major strategic investment, influence potential developers, support the development of competitive people, communities, businesses, and infrastructure, and maximise long-term legacy benefits of renewable energy.
Menter Môn are working closely with major developments on the island to maximise local benefits. What this means is that we will utilise any money received to improve the community, for example improving public areas, introducing electric charging points and hosting different community events.
We can support this initiative by embracing renewable energy in our homes and businesses, and by educating ourselves and others about the importance of sustainable energy. We can also support local businesses involved in the green energy sector and advocate for policies that promote renewable energy.

Looking ahead, the Energy Island vision is to create a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for jobs, economic growth, and prosperity through capitalising on a number of transformational projects on Anglesey. The programme’s ambitions are key to a green economic recovery, with potential developments aligned with the current policies and priorities of the UK Government, Welsh Government, and the North Wales Economic Ambition Board.
